Connections

Westwood met Malcolm McLaren in 1965, and ended her marriage, moving into a council flat with McLaren. Inspired by McLaren, Westwood decided to begin designing clothing and open a boutique in London, the beginning of her success as a designer.

Westwood's designs gained major attention after Jonny Rotten of the band The Sex Pistols, along with the other members of the band, began wearing her clothes. McLaren was the band's manager.

Westwood is a longtime close friend of Kate Moss.

One of my most influential muses was model Sara Stockbridge, during the 1980's.

At the premiere of the movie Sex & the City, for which Westwood had famously designed the main character's iconic wedding dress, Westwood walked out after 10 minutes, criticizing wardrobe designer Patricia Field for her "frumpy and boring" styling.

In 1989, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ordered a suit from Westwood, but before delivering it, Westwood wore it for the cover of the April 1989 cover of Tatler, dressed and styled to look like Thatcher, with the heading "This woman used to be punk." The cover became one of the most famous in the magazine's history, but reportedly infuriated Thatcher.

In 2013, Westwood dedicated a fashion show to Chelsea Manning.
