Valence is a town in the region of Rhone-Alpes in southeastern France, located on the Rhone River 60 miles from Lyon. 

It was founded around 50 BC under the rule of Emperor Augustus, then named "Valentia Julia." 

Today, it is known for its history, architecture, olive growing, and southern French culture.
