St. John in People's Lives

Max Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook: I moved here in 1898, a struggling young man with great ambition. I intended to become a lawyer, but instead ended up working as an insurance salesman. I didn't stay long, only residing here for a few months before moving again to Calgary to take a job overseeing a political campagin.

Peggy Shippen: I sailed here from London to meet my husband, Benedict Arnold, in 1787. He had left me and our children behind three years ago, in 1784, and now he had sent for me. I had to leave our two sons behind. After joining Arnold here, I gave birth to a third son. In 1791, both my husband and I returned to England, much to my relief. Angry mobs surrounded our ship before casting off, yelling at us that we were traitors.
