The area was first settled under the name of "Muckross," a religious village established in 370 AD. A cathedral was built in the 8th Century, and also at that time, the town claimed to have come into possession of the bones of St. Andrew, for whom the town is named.
Today, St. Andrews is a town rich in history, learning, intellectuality, and beauty. It is best known for its prestigious university - the 4th best in the United Kingdom, as a worldwide center for golf, for its cathedral, castle, seaside and beaches, and Celtic influence and history.
