Slindon Folly
Slindon is a tiny village in the county of West Sussex in southern England, in the Arundel district. It is bordered by a thick wood owned by the National Trust.

It was first mentioned in history in 1186, as "Eslindone," meaning "sloping hill" in Old English.

Today, the town is known for its charming English countryside atmosphere, rolling meadows, surrounding forests, historic ruins, annual Halloween pumpkin and squash displays, cafes, and cricket club.

Slindon in People's Lives

Hilaire Belloc: My family moved here when I was less than a year old, in 1870, to escape rising political tensions back in my birth country of France. I loved this place, and grew up here. I always considered it to be my true home, and was often fiercely homesick for it later in life, writing much poetry about it. In 1872, my father's wealth was wiped out by the stock market crash, and he died a few months later. I was sent to school in Birmingham at the age of 11, in 1881.
