Shiraz is the fifth most-populated city in Iran. The first mention of the city in history was in 2000 BC, under the name of Tirazis. In the middle ages, it became known as a patron city of the arts, and was briefly the Persian capitol in the 18th Century.

Already an Iranian commerce and trade center for centuries, Shiraz is a main spot for industry, but also known as a beautiful, poetic city with a literary feel. Symbols of the city are poets, literature, wine, flowers, and nightingales.
