It was established as a hill town in the 13th Century, and remains of the medieval city wall still exist today. A grand castle was built here, and through the 13th - 16th Centuries, Sermoneta was the basis of a thriving Jewish community, until they were brutally expelled.
Today, the town is known as one of Italy's lesser-known gems, notable for its cathedral, castle, medieval inner city, surrounding mountains, and hilltop view.
