Charles Hector d'Estaing: Along with both French and American forces, I commanded a siege of this city, which was being held by the British, in 1779. I was wounded twice, and the siege dragged on for weeks. Ultimately, it was unsuccessful, and my forces withdrew. The British remained in control of coastal Georgia until the end of the Revolutionary War.
