Park bridge over Concho River
San Angelo is a city in west-central Texas, located on the Concho River.

It was originally inhabited by the Jumano Native Americans. The first European contact was in 1632, when a Franciscan mission was built here to evangelize to the Indians. This venture only lasted about six months, however, before being abandoned. The town of today was founded as Fort Concho in 1867, where there was a strong military prescence.

Today, San Angelo is known for its historic fort, lakes, riverfront, parks, education, and fast growth.
