Sainte-Suzanne is a small village in the Mayenne department of northwestern France. It is primarily known for its castle and medieval buildings, many of which are still intact and in use to this day.

William the Conqueror: I laid siege to this town for two years, from 1084 - 1086. One of my Norman aristocrats had rebelled against me, and was using the castle here as a stronghold. Though the castle proved an advantageous place of fortification, my forces and numbers were relentless, and eventually the rebels surrendered after a long two years of siege. The rebellious noble reconciled with me, and I restored him to favor.
