Rye-crop
Rye is a town in the county of Sussex in southeastern England, located two miles from the sea and at the confluence of three rivers, the Rother, Tillingham and Brede Rivers.

Though this is no longer the case, in medieval times the town was at the head of the English Channel, and almost entirely surrounded by the ocean. It was established around the 12th Century, and prized for its strategic channel location.

Today, Rye is known for its quaint streets, picturesque buildings, shopfronts, bed and breakfast locales, cafes, tea rooms, fishing, history, and churches.

Henry James: I temporarily moved here in 1897 to write one of my most famous pieces, The Turn of the Screw. I went back to London in 1898.
