Radcliffe Yard, Cambridge MA
Radcliffe College was a women's liberal arts college located in Cambridge, Massachusetts that operated as a constituent college of the formerly all-male Harvard University

It was founded in 1879 as a response to prolonged efforts of women to gain acceptance into Harvard. Unwilling to allow female students to attend the university, Harvard instead created a seperate college for women. In 1977, in response to criticism of the need to seperate Harvard men from Harvard women, the overseeing university created a "non-merger merger," taking Radcliffe in as an offshoot school. The combination of the schools was completely effective in 1999, when Radcliffe was dissolved and made a true, seamless part of Harvard.
