Native Americans inhabited this area for thousands of years. Burial mounds dating back to 500 BC have been found. The first European contact was by Jacques Marquette in 1674, but a settlement was not established until 1791, being a French trading post profiting off of the lucrative fur industry.
Today, Racine is known for its luxurious relaxing homes, lighthouse, waterfront, and industrial heritage.
