Petah Tikva is a city in western Israel, located 6 miles east of Tel Aviv. The city's name means "Opening of Hope," but it also sometimes known as "Em HaMoshavat," meaning "Mother of the Moshavat" (a Zionist settlement).

It was founded in 1878 by religious immigrants from Europe, though other scattered settlements have existed since the time of the Ottoman Empire.

Today, Petah Tikva is known for its heavy population and influence of Orthodox Jews, for its sprawling large size, city skyline, economy, industrial plants, and the disappearance of its once lush citrus groves.
