Tree's mother is Marietta Peabody Tree, an American socialite and politicial activist. She is the great-great granddaughter of Marshall Field, who founded the great department store chain that is now Macy's. She is also the great-grand granddaughter of Endicott Peabody. She is also the niece of Endicott Peabody, a former Massachusetts governor of the same name.
