Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde was an Irish writer of novels, plays, essays, and poetry. Though he quickly rose to become one of the most popular writers of his day in England, Wilde was imprisoned in 1895 for his homosexuality. He was released two years later, and left for France, never to return to Britain again.
