Nimr al-Nimr, also known as Sheikh Nimr, was a Saudi sheikh and revolutionary speaker. He was a popular cultural figure, especially among youth, and was an outspoken critic of the Saudi government. He also called for free elections in Saudi Arabia. He was arrested multiple times, to great controversy. He was sentenced to death in 2014 for "foreign meddling" and "disobeying" Saudi authorities. He was executed in 2016, despite the sentence being condemned by many countries.
