Munich in People's Lives

Jared Leto: I traveled here in 2003 to film scenes of the movie Alexander

John Scott-Ellis: While studying languages here in 1931, I decided to purchase my first car, a red Fiat. During my first drive, I knocked down and nearly ran over a pedestrian, who happened to be none other than Adolf Hitler. I was mortified and shaken up, at the time massively relieved that the man had not been injured or even, unthinkably, killed. However, later in my life, I marveled at how I had held the fate of the world in my hands that day, and how different things would have been had he actually been killed. Three years later, in 1934, I was in this city again, taking my new German wife to a nice evening at the Cuvillies Theater, attending an opera. I was surprised to spot the same man I had knocked into sitting in the box next to me, and went over to say hello, much to the alarm of Hitler's bodyguards. I identified myself as "the man who had knocked him over three years ago," and we spoke for a few minutes before I went back to my box. I found him, at the time, charming.

Orlando BloomI traveled here in 2010 to film scenes of the movie The Three Musketeers

Viktoria Tolstoy: I performed a concert here in 2014, with Jacob Karlzon.

Vinnie Ream: I visited here in 1868, as a highly accomplished young sculptress.
