Malaga was founded in 770 BC as Malaka by Phoenician settlers from Tyre. It was later a part of the Roman Empire and later passed into Arabic rule, before becoming European. With this mixed background, Malaga is culturally and historically diverse.
Today, the city is known as a beautiful gem of the Mediterranean, as well as for its architecture, Roman ruins and theater, and art. It is one of the oldest cities in the world.
