Lommedalen is a small town in southeastern Norway, with a population of approximately 3,000 inhabitants. It is located on the Lomma River, from which it takes its name.

Though there is not much information on its history, it has existed since at least medieval times, when a pilgrim road passed through here.

Today, the town is known for its beautiful natural scenery, rolling hillsides, lake, and countryside homes.

Magnus Carlsen: I moved here as a child, in 1998, when I was 8 years old. By that time, I was already an enormously intelligent boy with an amazing memory and an awakening skill with chess. I began to participate in chess tournaments in 1999, at the age of 8. In 2000, I began studying with the best chess masters in the world, and my scores improved in leaps and bounds. I began playing in tournaments at a crazy pace, being in over 300 of them from 2000 - 2002, and winning quite a lot of awards.
