Gerard Manley Hopkins: I lived here briefly, working as a Catholic minister, around 1882.

James Buchanan: I traveled here as Minister to the United Kingdom in 1855, already planning my bid for President of the United States next year and wishing to be able to say that I was neutral in certain political entanglements, by having been abroad. While here, I met with Nathaniel Hawthorne, who was then serving as American Consul.

Jude Law: I traveled here in 2003 to film scenes of the movie Alfie. While filming, I developed a mutual attraction with my co-star, Sienna Miller.

Keira Knightley: I traveled here in 2013 to film scenes of the movie Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Liam Neeson: I traveled here in 1984 to film scenes of the movie Lamb

Mary Todd Lincoln: At the conclusion of our European trip, my son Tad and I sailed back to the United States from this city in 1869, on a ship by the Cunard line that held the current record for a transatlantic crossing. However, our own voyage suffered bad weather, and took an extra couple of days. Coincidentally, Philip Sheridan was on board the ship as well.

Roald DahlIn 1934, at the age of 17, I had just gotten out of school, and decided to go on an adventure instead of continuing on to university. I set out on a transatlantic voyage on the RMS Nova Scotia to go on a hiking trip in the Canadian island of Newfoundland. The ship set out from this city.

Robert Morris: I was born here in 1734. At the age of 13, in 1747, I left England and sailed to the New World to join my father in Oxford, Maryland.

Rudyard Kipling: After my year-long tour of the United States, I returned to England via this city in October 1889.

Javier Hernandez: I played a futball game here in 2011, playing for Manchester against Liverpool's own team. I scored the only goal made in our 3-1 defeat.

Vivienne Westwood: I own a store here.
