It was originally founded as a plantation, and then an agricultural settlement called "Lusum," mainly inhabited by Quaker farmers seeking freedom from religious persecution in England. The name was changed to Jericho after the Biblical promised land.
Today, Jericho is known for its upper-class houses and mansions, and mainly as a suburban area.

Natalie Portman: I lived here with my family, from 1990 - 1999. Being Jewish, they liked its Biblical Old Testament name. I lived here from the age of 9 to 18, through middle and high school. I was an intelligent and dedicated student, and also took ballet and modern dance classes. I became interested in theater and performing arts, and landed a role in my first film, Leon the Professional, in 1994, when I was 12 years old. However, I did not audition for any more roles until I was 16, when I got a leading part in Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. I skipped the 1999 premiere of the movie to study for final exams. I then concentrated on getting into a top university - Harvard.
