Ignacio Allende was a Spanish captain who began to experience divided loyalties while stationed in Mexico. He eventually ended up siding with the Mexican independence movement and led forces into battle against his country as a lieutenant general.

Connections

When Allende first joined the Spanish army in 1802, he served under general Felix Maria Calleja.

Allende was invited by Miguel Dominguez and Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez to their home in order to discuss the idea of Mexican independece, around 1804. Allende went back to similar meetings regularly and soon met Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and Juan Aldama.

Allende was betrayed to the Spanish forces by Ignacio Elizondo, leading to his capture and execution.
