Catrinel Menghia: I was born in this city in 1985, and grew up here. I was born into an athletic family, my father having been a well-known Olympic sprinter. I aspired to follow in his footsteps, and became very passionate about the sport. At the age of 15, I was the number one high-jumper in all of Romania, and appeared to be headed for the Olympics. However, after being spotted by a modeling agent on a school trip in 2001, I moved to Bucharest with my parent's support, to pursue a modeling career.
