Guayama is a town on the Caribbean coast of southern Puerto Rico.

Formerly inhabited by Taino Indians, the town of Guayama was founded in 1736 as a colony of Spain. Today, it is known for its beaches, architecture, downtown area, history, and surrounding islands.

Samuel Morse: My brother-in-law, the brother of my first late wife, lived in this town, and my daughter Susan and I would often visit him here. I also traveled here in 1858 when introducing the telegraph system to Latin America. I thought Puerto Rico a beautiful jewel of a place, and always loved my visits here.
