Though the factual basis for this is shaky, Grantham is said to have been established by a Briton king between 292 and 282 BC. It was first mentioned in history in 1086.
Today, Grantham is known for its downtown area, shopfronts, history, and quality of life.

Isaac Newton: I was sent by my mother and my horrid stepfather to attend a prestigious boy's school here, in 1654, at the age of 12. I attended the King's School. The school focused on the classics and Latin, and we were not taught in mathematics. I was constantly and infuriatingly taunted by the schoolyard bully, who preened on the fact that he had the highest grades of all the students. My competitive streak was brought out, and I set about making myself the top-ranked student. I accomplished this, beating my tormentor, and also gained distinction by building sundials and windmills. In 1659, with only a few months to go before my studies were completed, my mother pulled me from school and brought me back to Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, as my stepfather had passed away, leaving her widowed for a second time. She got the idea that I should support her by becoming a farmer and farming our land - which I hated with a passion. A teacher of mine at the school here persuaded her that I should return to finish my studies, which I did later in 1659, leaving to return back to my mother's estate in 1660.
Liam Neeson: I traveled here in 1998 to film scenes of the movie The Haunting.
