Gorlitz (2)
Gorlitz is a town in the state of Saxony in far-eastern Germany, at the Polish border. It is directly opposite the twin town of Zgorzelec, Poland, which was a part of Gorlitz until 1945, after which the bridges and links between the towns were destroyed, and they were forever seperated.

It began as a tiny village in approximately 990 AD. Throughout its history, the town has been ruled by the Sorbians, Poland, the Duchy of Bohemia, the Electorate of Saxony, the Kingdom of Prussia, and Germany.

Today, it is known for its typically European architecture, downtown area, history, its proximity to Poland and Polish influence, and nearby mountains.
