Gisborne is a town on the northeastern coast of New Zealand, on Poverty Bay. It is one of the first cities in the world to see the day's sunrise, especially in the summer months. It is sometimes nicknamed the "City of Rivers" due to being the place where three rivers converge.

It was the first location in New Zealand to be spotted by Captain James Cook's ships in 1769. The town was established sometime in the early 1800's. It was originally named "Turanga," but the town's name was changed in 1870 in honor of a New Zealand politician.

Today, Gisborne is known for its bay, bright blue and crystal clear waters, downtown area, hillsides, ports, surfing, and beaches.
