City lights in Dusseldorf
Dusseldorf is the capitol city of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in central western Germany. It is the seventh most-populated city in the country.

It was first mentioned in history in 1135.

Today, Dusseldorf is known as a Europeon capitol for business and finance, as well as for its art and music scene and for its large number of Japanese inhabitants.

Anne of Cleves: I was born here in 1515, and left in 1539 to marry Henry VIII. I never returned to Germany for the rest of my life, and was frequently homesick.

Heike Makatsch: I was born here in 1971, the daughter of a German national ice hockey player. I grew up here and attended univeristy here, where I studied politics and sociology for a year. I also worked as an apprentice dressmaker in this city after leaving college, and began to look into TV journalism.

Viktoria Tolstoy: I performed a concert here in 2014, at the Theater an Der Ko, with Jacob Karlzon.

William Penn: I visited here in 1678, while on a missionary voyage with a group of other Quakers.
