DeKalb is a town in northern Illinois, on the Kishwaukee River.

It was founded in 1837, and in the early 1850's grew wealthy off of the shipping and trading industry, as well as agriculture. The town was named in honor of Revolutionary War hero Johann de Kalb. It was also the birthplace of barbed wire, invented by a local in 1873.

Today, DeKalb is known for its historic Egyptian Theatre, downtown area, history, agriculture, and corn fields just outside of town.
