It was settled in the 1870's as a logging town, with workmen searching for the valuable red cedar trees. It was named for Richard Daintree.
Today, Daintree is surrounded by a lush and thick jungle, and is sometimes visited by tourists who wish to travel off the beaten path, or by serious birdwatchers. The people who live here are almost all those that work in the hotels, b&bs, and spas that seek to draw in tourism.
