The land was originally inhabited by Creek and Cherokee Native Americans, who had a well-traversed path called the "Great Indian Road." This road was later used by settlers, and settlement began in 1821. The town was founded in 1854, its economy bolstered by the erection of the new Georgia Railroad.
Today, Conyers is known for its colorful row of shops downtown, train tracks, and for being the only "city" in its county.
