Charles Hector d'Estaing: I fought here in 1758 at the Siege of Madras. Defeat was inevitable, but I advanced alone at the British, most likely with the full expectation that I would be killed. Magnus Carlsen: I traveled here in November of 2013 to compete in the World Chess Championship.
