Henry Morgan: In 1669, I made extensive plans and gathered an impressive fleet of ships and pirate sailors in anticipiation of taking this city, but various turns of ill fate continued to disrupt these plans: first, the English and French members of my crew began a feud amongst themselves, and then, during a party being held in celebration of the fact that we planned to sack this city, the best ship in my fleet was destroyed after explosives were accidentally set off. After that, many of my crew abandoned the mission, taking the explosion as a sign of bad luck. Sailing toward this city, we were beset by storms, and I decided to give up hope of attacking this wealthy, well-fortified city. I headed instead to take the town of Maracaibo.
Liam Neeson: I traveled here in 1985 to film scenes of the movie The Mission. I returned in 2009 to film scenes of the movie The Next Three Days.
