Historic castles and manor houses existed here since the Middle Ages, but the actual town was established around 1810.
It is now known for its historic buildings, charming cottages, and small English countryside town appeal.

Jane Seymour: I was born here, at Wulfhall Manor, in 1508, the daughter of courtier Sir John Seymour and his noble wife Margery. Through my maternal grandfather, I was a descendent of Edward III of England, and the fifth-cousin of Henry VIII. I was given only a mediocre education, and could only read and write a little. However, I was considered adept at managing a household, and a great embroiderer, needlework being a passion of mine. In 1527, at the age of 19, I moved to London to serve Catherine of Aragon.
