James II of England: After years of living in France and serving in their army, my brother Charles II allied himself with Spain, the French people's main enemy. Due to this, I was forced to leave their army, and traveled here, penniless, with my younger brother Henry in 1657. I joined a division of the Spanish army here, though I knew that this meant siding against my former French comrades. Also while here, I began to shift my religion to Irish Catholicism, causing yet another strain between Charles and I, as he was Anglican. In 1659, France and Spain made peace, much to my relief. My brother spoke grandly of returning to England and siezing the throne that was rightfully his, but I was skeptical, as his last attempt at this had failed and landed us both in exile. I was offered the post of admiral in the Spanish Navy, which I seriously considered, but in the end turned down. This was fortunate, as shortly afterward Charles and I traveled to England to be welcomed back into British royalty.
Thomas More: I accompanied Thomas Wolsey on a diplomatic mission here in 1521.
