One of Germany's oldest cities, Bonn was founded as a Roman settlement in 11 BC, and later extensive Roman walls and fortifications were built here. From 1597 - 1794, the city was the capital of the Electorate of Cologne. The German Constitution was written here in 1949, and Bonn was the de facto capital of West Germany from 1949 - 1990.
Today, Bonn is known for its elegant beauty, architecture, rich history, cherry trees, intellectuality, and university.
