Baghdad in People's Lives
Agatha Christie: I visited this city numerous times in the 1930's, mainly on archaeological expeditions with my husband.
Milo Ventimiglia: I traveled here in 2008 with the United Service Organization, to visit with and support troops serving in Iraq. Since then, I have been active with the Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of American program, launched a national public service campaign on veteran's behalf, and created the website SupportYourVet.com.
Roald Dahl: After completing my initial training flying for the Royal Air Force in Nairobi, I was thought a talented enough pilot to be sent for advanced training, and so I stayed on the outskirts of this city in 1940, aged 23. I was soon afterward promoted to leading aircraftsman. After training for six months flying a Hawker Hart, I was promoted again to acting pilot officer. I was assigned to the No. 80 Squadron RAF flying Gloster Gladiator planes.
